Evolution of motorcycle inner tube from natural rubber to butyl rubber

The motorcycle inner tube is an essential part of the motorcycle tire, which stores and maintains air pressure inside the tire to provide support and cushioning for the wheel. Initially, motorcycle inner tubes were made of natural rubber, but over time, the materials used to manufacture them have evolved.

Natural rubber is derived from the latex of rubber trees. It has excellent elasticity and resilience, but it tends to soften and deteriorate under high temperatures. As motorcycles experience different temperature and pressure changes during operation, inner tubes made of natural rubber can become prone to problems such as aging, cracking, and leaking.

With the development of technology, synthetic rubber has gradually been applied in the manufacturing of motorcycle inner tubes. Synthetic rubber is a high polymer material made from petrochemical raw materials, and its performance is relatively stable, with better temperature resistance. Among the different types of synthetic rubber, butyl rubber is one of the materials widely used in the manufacturing of motorcycle inner tubes. Butyl rubber has good aging resistance and high-temperature resistance, is less prone to cracking, and deformation, and has excellent sealing and wear resistance properties.

Therefore, the evolution of motorcycle inner tubes from natural rubber to butyl rubber has resulted in significant improvements in their performance in terms of aging resistance, temperature resistance, sealing properties, and wear resistance.
